Notice of Adoption of Local Rule F-9.2
In conjunction with the Board of Directors, the Rules and Handicap Committee is pleased to advise that the Club has now adopted Local Rule F-9.2, which allows for free relief where exposed tree roots interfere with the ball. The exposed tree roots would be treated as Ground Under Repair, allowing for relief under Rule 16.1b.
This local rule applies to the general area of the course, including the fairway and the first cut of the rough. It does not apply to other areas of the course. It applies only if exposed tree roots interfere with the ball and not if exposed tree roots interfere with stance. Local Rule F-9.2 is in effect for all play, including stroke and match play competitions. The adoption of this rule is a preventive measure to minimize injury to players, or damage to equipment, resulting from contact with exposed tree roots.
Wording of Local Rule F-9.2 is as follows:
Rule F-9.2: If a player's ball is in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots that are in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less or in the first cut of the rough, the tree roots are treated as ground under repair. The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b. But interference does not exist if the tree roots only interfere with the player's stance.
