What a weekend!

The 2016 Club Championship had it all. From dicey weather at the beginning of the first day to drama and high spirits at the end. Close to 70 golfers went out under grey skies Saturday. Almost all of them made it in before the rain but the round was completed. Sunday morning, we were at it again. Some of us shot our worst rounds of the year the previous day but still held out hope that we could turn it around and light it up – and a few did, making the jump from also rans to contenders. The scores were not the whole story. There were moments; it wasn’t all shanks and missed short putts. There were great tee shots, dimes dropped on greens, some long putts and scrambling from impossible lies. All of us sharing our ups and downs with the fellowship of comrades on the course and having a great time.

We would like to congratulate the winners. This year’s men’s Club Champion is Larry Powell, who prevailed over many younger golfers to win a close, exciting contest. Women’s Champion this year was Connie Gallagher. There was a total of seven flights. For a complete list of winners and runners up click here.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the camaraderie on the deck. As the players came in, there was some spirited betting and a few coins changed hands as a number of us tried to predict who in which group would win the 18th hole. Steve, Jenny and their staff provided us with wonderful hors d’oeuvres and attentive service as we witnessed the contestants coming in for their final hole. The fun on the course was equally riveting, as many of us played with new playing partners and introduced ourselves to some new friends.

It was a great event. To everyone that participated, thanks for making this year’s Club Championship a success. To those who are thinking about it, consider joining us next time. Ask anyone who played this year; it was a great experience and a fantastic opportunity to meet and socialize with your fellow members at the club.

Cart Safety

Just a reminder to everyone using power carts. Drive a cart as you would your own vehicle and think of safety first. Be especially careful when entering or crossing the Millennium Trail. Treat the crossing like you would a road. Please slow down and stop before you enter that area and be alert for other traffic. Golf carts must yield to all traffic on the Trail. In addition to other golf carts there are ATV’s and motorcycles that may use the thoroughfare at high speed. The corner at the entrance to hole # 3 is also the throughway for carts transiting from #8 to #9. So please be mindful of other carts and traffic in that area as well.
